Professor Paul Baas is a Thoracic Oncologist who has worked over 30 years in the department of Thoracic Oncology of the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. He has been head of the department for 14 years and is appointed professor in Thoracic Oncology at the University of Leiden. He has been active in many international boards as chairman or vice chairman like the EORTC, ETOP and the IASLC mesothelioma group. His specialty is primarily in lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymoma. He has published over 350 papers in this field and was awarded by His Majesty the King of The Netherlands as knight in the order of the Netherlands Lioness for his international contribution for patients with mesothelioma. He was awarded in 2023 with the Heine H Hansen award in Copenhagen for his lifetime achievement in lung cancer treatment. His current research focusses on immunology therapies in thoracic diseases.
